The Nose Knows A Spunky Mystery Holly L Lewitas 9781604947373 Books

The book was outstanding because the the plot and characters were really good. The way the author connected the events in the book to Hannah Richards personal history was really clever. The dogs are awesome, I wanted to reach into the pages and rub their bellies! Spunky is a great character and it was really cool how the animals communicated with each other. Best of all it was a great ending to a great book!! This book would be a great movie too.

The Nose Knows A Spunky Mystery Holly L Lewitas 9781604947373 Books Reviews

The relationships between the animals and their owner are well constructed. Hannah adopts and cares for strays and abused animals, so many of her pets have sad stories but have pulled through. Throughout the book you see how the animals help heal Hannah after she has faced so much strife and grief, and they even come to help her patients. I was really interested in seeing how Hannah's patients developed. Spunky and the other animals use their keen sense to detect changes in their way of speaking and their expressions. It works out to be very touching and sometimes funny as they try to help Hannah's patients and help her move on and find new love. The animals are very anthropomorphized in their ways of thinking and speaking, and they understand concepts I imagine real animals wouldn't get. It's on the level of Wishbone or Homeward Bound, for example. Still, given what Ms. Lewitas is going for, it works.

The book is written from Spunky's (a tenacious terrier mutt) point of view, and we get a lot of insight into how the pets feel about human behavior. It takes a while for the plot to get going, but this time is spent setting up each character's backstory and place in the household.
The writing is simple but well done, and there weren't any typos that I can recall. This is a very pleasant, clean read that shows how animals and people help each other through tough times. Mystery, romance, and animal antics if that sounds like an appealing list, you'll love this.
The Nose Knows is about a terrier mutt named Spunky. She lives with her human mom, a psychologist, and four cats, Fearless, Bobby, Sweetie, and Fancy Pants.
Some years before, her mom was held hostage by one of her patients. The traumatic event left her mom closing down her practice and refusing to see any more patients. Her husband died awhile later and after a few years she finally got a grip on herself and decided to start seeing patients again. Since she didn't want to be alone in a room with her patients, she set up her practice by video chatting over the computer. She never had to leave the safety of her home, and the animals were all able to watch and listen to the sessions.
In the meantime their mom also ends up meeting Jacob and his black lab, Quincy at the puppy park that she takes Spunky too. The dogs become friends and with the help of the cats are able to get Jacob to finally admit to their mom that he isn't married and they have some amusing escapades to get their mom to invite Jacob and Quincy over for supper.
Things start changing when a Mr. Johnson starts up meeting Mom in her group therapy sessions. When he breaks one of the rules of being in the group, Mom kicks him out. Only one of the cats hears his low muttered threat before Mom kicks him out. Spunky is concerned and when other strange things start happening she starts trying to piece the parts of the puzzle together. Dragging up memories from years ago she starts getting everything figured out. In the end everything fits into place and the mystery is solved.
It was an enjoyable read and it goes into a lot of the backstories of the characters so you get a really good feel for who/what they are and what made them that way. It has some lighthearted moments of the animals and accurately portrays how cats and dogs act. It was quite interesting and didn't really drag or make you get bored. It definitely kept my interest and made me try to figure out the mystery portion of it before Spunky did. There were a few times that Spunky would explain what something meant and then reiterate it a few more times in later chapters like she had never explained it before, which would make it a bit redundant at times.
Overall, I think if you like animals and a decent mystery you would enjoy reading this book.
*I did receive a free copy of the book for providing an honest review.
This is the second book that I have read that is from the perspective of a dog. Although it's a bit unusual, I enjoyed the cute stories of Spunky and all the other creatures throughout the book.

Immediately you'll be hooked to the warm and loving terrier named Spunky. Spunky lives with his family, a few cats (Fearless, Bobby, Sweetie and Fancy Pants), and his owner Hanna who is a psychotherapist in much need of a break away from her work. Things became violent with one of her patients, making her skeptical about returning back to work, she is determined to face her fears, and becomes more confident to do so with the help from her furry family.

Since Hanna's husband had "passed over the rainbow bridge" her pets have become very protective and concerned about her well being. Animals truly are a humans best friend, and this story dives into Spunky's mind to explain his perspective on Hanna's life.

The author does such a great job of getting into the mind of the animals, I imagine if dogs could really share their experiences and thoughts with humans, it would be a lot like the author described it to be.
I could clearly imagine Spunky and the cats conversations as they plotted together to serve and protect their family.

Each character was so heartfelt and loving, you couldn't help but become addicted to their story. It was absolutely adorable the connection Spunky had with her friend the black lab, named Quincy and his owner Jacob. Together Spunky and the cats plot to get Quincy's owner Jacob to become sweet on Hanna and so far their plot seems to be working very well.

This was a great book with a combination of mystery, love, humor and excitement that had me turning pages all throughout the night until the book was finally finished. It is a true talent for the author to be able to write from the animals point of view so clearly and what seems accurately. This book has something for everyone! An especially great read for any animals lovers out there!

I give this book 5/5
